library media technologies
Library Media Technologies was the very first class I took through the APU program, and it introduced me to many different forms of technology I never used and have now introduced to so many classroom teachers. It was a truly valuable class!
technology lesson
One of the most interesting and helpful assignments we did in the class was to create a technology lesson for teachers or students. We had to choose some piece of technology and then give a quick lesson on how to use that piece of technology. The assignment as to create a set of instructions. I decided to create my projects on how to insert You Tube Videos into Power Point 2010. You can see my paper instructions below.
However, I wanted to go beyond this and do what I really felt like I wanted to do when I took over the TL position at my school. I had a vision to create a You Tube channel for the library and to create instructional videos on how to use these different forms of technology. These could be accessed anywhere, anytime. A teacher could choose to have me show the videos and take follow up questions or they could show the videos themselves if I wasn't available. Below is the video I created for this project, my first adventure into instruction video creating.
Not bad for my first try! The crazy thing is. . . .this video isn't even correct anymore! My, how quick technology changes!
Putting my studies into practice
There are so many ways I have used this class in my everyday teaching! First of all, this class introduced me to Prezi and Animoto, two pieces of technology now my entire campus uses. We have these school-wide collaboration days, and during one of those, I trained the entire staff on how to use Prezi. It was so successful that Prezi is now more used than Power Point on our campus. I couldn't be prouder! Below is the instructional video I use when I go into the classroom to teach them how to use Prezi. I simply found instructional videos from Prezi's You Tube channel and compiled them to fit our needs. It works perfectly, and it's available later to students if they want to view it again.
I also use Animoto is many different ways as well. While some classes have come in and used it, one of my favorite ways in which I use it is to display our new books coming in on the TV display monitor we have behind the front counter. It catches the student's attention, that's for sure! Below is the video I created for our January book order. I create a new one each month, and it's fun to think of what theme will be playing for the month!
